Following on from ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’, their celebration of Hogarth and the Burlingtons at Chiswick Old Church this summer, the performers return to Hogarth’s House, with music and words from his century and ours.

David Matthews – Preludes, fugues and birdsong (selections)
This event reflects on the inside and the outside of the House. Music made to be played in cosy spaces counterpoints responses to the outside world and Hogarth’s garden close by. Its celebrated Mulberry tree directly inspires new poetry by Malene Sheppard Skaerved. David Matthews’s works respond to the celebrated forms of the 18th century, as well as birdsong. David Hackbridge Johnson’s suite celebrates a ribald, thorough Hogarthian rumpus in the East End, as reported by Tatler, a publication Hogarth would have known well.
